What Others Say About ... Wet Wipes

Picture of Wet Wipes

This review was written by a customer who bought this product directly from Hankettes (Canada).

Why did you buy the product?
I thought using disposable baby wipes (even the biodegradable kind) was either going to clog up the planet or empty my purse of cash at an alarming rate - at between £1 and £4 a pack this soon adds up when you know how many nappies you will be changing. I had heard of people making their own wipes but I had no time and would just have not got around to it. So whilst surfing the web I discovered this perfect little pack of wet wipes* in Organic Cotton too so I had peace of mind that I was doing my bit to help save the planet in two ways. Like all new mums I wanted the best for my baby and want to leave the planet a better place for him and his children to live on.

What do you use the product for?
I use the wipes purely for wiping my new baby son’s bottom! They can be used as general-use baby wipes too for cleaning up hands and dribbles.

How effective was the product?
The wipes are perfect, even when my baby was newborn and he had very runny poo’s the wipes did the job perfectly. I just wet them with the solution* and wipe away. One wipe is usually enough per nappy change. I just put the dirty wipes in my nappy bucket with my washable nappies and wash them all together every other day.

What do you like best about it?
I like the little bag* the wipes come in, I can fit the bottle of wet wipe solution* in, plus a small tube of earth-friendly nappy cream in too. Also I don’t bother to iron the wipes after washing; I just fold them up and pop back in the bag when they are dry so they really are no trouble to use. Another important factor is that I will be able to use them on any babies that I have in the future.

What are its shortcomings?
I love this product and I honestly have nothing bad to say about it, every home should have one – baby, toddler, and child or not! It would be useful for car journeys too, or after eating some food on the go!

How many wipes would you say is an ideal number to have?
I manage with ten wipes as I wash my nappies every other day, those who wash less frequently may need more.

What is the maximum price you would pay for this?
I think around £20 is a good price for the wet wipes – it doesn’t make the pack unaffordable even to those on low incomes and customers will soon reap the savings as you won’t be spending money week after week on disposable wipes which would add-up dramatically quickly.

Would you:
· Recommend this to your friends? –
I discussed the wipes with my pregnant friend over coffee last week. She is expecting her second baby so has to watch the pennies. She was really interested and thought it was a great idea and wanted to know where to get a pack from. I suggested I buy her a pack as a present for when the baby arrives.

· Buy it as a present for someone else? I have another friend who has a new baby and lives in Spain and I am going to buy her a pack as a gift too.

Any other comments:
You don’t have to store the wipes wet which would require changing them daily (as the solution does not come with preservatives).

Finally, it is possible to make up your own wet wipe solution* very simply if you don’t have the refill kit – just fill a little squirt bottle with a mixture of cooled boiled water, a tiny bit of olive/almond oil, a tiny bit of baby shampoo/bath (organic) and a drop or two of essential oil – tea tree (antibacterial) or lavender etc. Shake well before each use. Or make some chamomile tea, let cool, add some honey and use that as a solution instead. Alternatively you could use a spray bottle to spray the solution on to the baby.

*NB. Mrs Moss bought a pack with a wet wipe solution directly from Hankettes. Organic-Ally™ only stocks the wipes in brown paper packaging (like the Hankie Refill Pack) without the vinyl bag and bottle of wet wipe solution as seen in the picture here. A wet wipe solution formula is available here.

For more information or to buy Wet Wipes click here. These can also be used as hankies.
